The only constant is change

The saying “The only constant is change” is not only a Guardian motto, but applicable for all of us. We might long for stability, safety, security, and/or predictability, especially when it comes to the economy, states, and relationships. But if we live long enough, we learn that we can’t really rely on anything.

Changes can be triggered by seemingly random events, or as a very intentional act. But they happen if we want them or not. Often, the only three things we think we can do is:

  • Bury our heads in the sand and try to ignore it as long as we possibly can,
  • Externalize by blaming someone or something else, or
  • Accept it how it is, and adapt our lives and actions accordingly.

Different forms of acceptance

Acceptance might sound to some people as if we have to sit still and put up with whatever bad thing might happen. But that’s not the only way. Healthy acceptance means to take a situation as it is, but instead of stopping here, evaluate if it crosses any of our boundaries, goes against any of our values, or simply doesn’t feel right. Then we can think about actions to take in order to change this current situation.

How to embrace whatever is

To accept a situation, we need to stop judging something as good or bad. Things simply are. If we judge something as bad, we feel that something shouldn’t have happened or shouldn’t be happening. This feeling is a form of resistance that keeps us locked in an unsolvable situation. We might even look for someone to blame or shame. Just so that we don’t have to feel the feelings coming up for us. It sounds simple to truly embrace what is, but it takes a lot of practice, dedication, and inner strength.

Vision or Mission can help

If we have a strong overall vision for our life or project, or a very clearly defined Mission, they can help us stay focused on what’s important, instead of getting tangled up in the web of frustration, sadness, anger, or self-pity.

We can remind ourselves of what’s important, why we started to walk this path, and what we aim to accomplish. That way, if some parameters change, if some approach doesn’t work (any more), we can find alternatives that may not seem as perfect as the original plan, but might just as well turn out to be so much better in the long run.

The infinite game

Ultimately, we’re all in a game. Trying out what works and what doesn’t. Experimenting with existing hypotheses and applying them to new situations. The question, however, is if we’re playing a finite or an infinite game.

In a finite game there are winners and losers. There is a defined start and end. An infinite game, on the other hand, is geared towards staying in the game as long as we can. Basketball is a finite game. Life is an infinite game. And as long as we know which game we’re playing, and don’t try to play an infinite game with a finite mind set, we will always find new ways, new approaches and new perspectives to a situation.

Adapting to change in the Guardian Way

For a Guardian, being present, flexible, and ready to adapt to any change is simply a way of being. We thrive on adversity, since it always brings us an opportunity to train, learn and grow. Even when nothing seems to change, Guardians train to stay flexible; to be ready to change direction, if something unexpected happens.

Being a Guardian and being of service is an infinite game. We know, there are no winners or losers. Our aim is to keep playing. To stay in the game as long and as effectively as possible.

How the Guardian Way team implemented this motto

We offer regular trainings to dive into being a Guardian since 2020. But in the white season of 2023/24 difficult circumstances meant that we had to make the hard decision to cancel the training as we had planned it. Instead of getting upset and giving up, we adapted to the circumstances. We didn’t judge the situation as good or bad. Instead, we assessed what was possible and what wasn’t. Then we looked for ways to still follow the main vision, while adapting to the circumstances.

The original training had the focus of Becoming Wolf, both with the intention to learn from them by tracking and living like them and to raise awareness for their dire situation, especially in Scandinavia. Since this wasn’t possible, we decided on a smaller, more specific Mission instead of the training, still with the Mission of tracking and learning from Wolves and raising awareness. But with only people from the team and other experienced individuals. That way we were still able to step up and serve the Wolves – just in a slightly different way. And it turned out that this whole Mission was following that same motto…

Guardian Training 2025

25. January 2025 @ 08:00 22. February 2025 @ 15:00

Connect to your essence and be a Guardian of your People and Mother Earth.

A Moon-long Guardian Training:
At-home Training: 25.01. – 07.02.2025
Immerstion Training, in Sweden: 08.02. – 22.02.2025

Our world is under siege. More and more effects of climate change become apparent, environmental destruction, wars and other political challenges seem to be a constant companion. This can easily make us feel helpless and overwhelmed, causing a freeze reaction. Or we’ve already been fighting for quite some time and are burning out, not knowing what we’re doing wrong.

And there is not an easy solution that solves all of our problems overnight. But imagine yourself fully connected to your innermost wild self. No limiting beliefs in the way. You are on top of your game, fully living intuitively what fulfills you. At the same time fully in service to something greater than yourself. And you are not alone. Other wild members of your clan have joined to accomplish together what you never thought possible. You don’t have to hide anything from your clan mates. Most of the time you don’t even need words to communicate. Just like a pack of wolves, you function like the perfectly intricate organism that only nature can conjure up. You are ever fascinated that the challenges that feIt insurmountable on your own somehow don’t even seem to be a problem at all as soon as you bring them to your clan…

This is a small glimpse of what is possible, if we become fully functioning guardians. And this is also a part of what this training is about..

In this Guardian Training Immersion we will use Wolf as our role model. Wolf has been Human’s longest and closest companion, and we share a lot, especially how to live and thrive within a tight-knit group.

What we will explore

This training is about the Guardian Way. Therefore, based on the Guardian Motto “giving is receiving”, whatever you’ll get out of this experience depends a lot on what you put in.
Here is some of what we will be doing:

  • attuning to your senses
  • exploring our emotional landscape
  • tracking
  • feeling comfortable in any weather condition
  • making friction fire in any weather condition
  • cooking on open fire
  • setting up a stealth camp
  • connecting to your gifts
  • working together seamlessly in a group
  • connecting to and taking care of your true basic needs

This training is focusing on the basics of Guardian Training, combined with an advanced wilderness winter outdoor skills training, with a strong focus on pack/group development.

Who this is for…

This is not a bushcraft- or survival course, even though you will learn quite a few of the same skills.

“All that Guardians do centers on respect—the deepest reverence for the Earth and all Her children, along with a high regard for the perfected self. In this day, Guardians are again needed by their people and their Earth Mother—perhaps more than ever.”

– Taken from the opening lines of the training text book Like a Shadow: The Life and Training of a Guardian Warrior, by Tamarack Song (Snow Wolf Publishing, 2020)

Therefore, we focus on walking the fine line between excellence, care and healing, not only for the self but for the pack and the people we serve.

The setup

The training starts at home two weeks before we meet in the forest. We will all practice the same awareness exercises together and start synchronizing our movements, coming into flow with each other like a flock of birds. The at-home training is aimed to fit in as a natural part of your everyday life as best as possible. You will start to dive into the mindset of the Guardian, prepare your body and get to know your fellow Guardians. You will need internet access to get instructions and to share about how your training is going.

The duration of the immersion is two weeks – during which you will stay in the forest together with your fellow Guardians, without any access to the civilized world.

General Information

This training is a semi-nomadic experience, as it is the Way of the Scout. We will live with only what is really necessary, on the edge where we are truly alive – just like all the other wild creatures in the forest. We need to rely on our own and our groups’ capabilities – we are only as strong as our weakest member.

We live closely together, like a pack of Wolves, and will need to rely on the group and the group will rely on us.

Living immersed in nature – especially in winter – will allow you to experience what it might be like to live like a wild animal on nature’s terms. You will learn how to read the tracks of the wolves – and other wild animals – and learn from them about living in balance with the Earth. You will get to know Wolf in a way not many people do.

Guardians are the protectors of their people and nature. They are the eyes, ears and nose of their people – and thus need to be absolutely attuned. We will help each other to embrace our fears and grow into our full potential. Transformation starts from within and we will become what we surround ourselves with – the more we are immersed in nature and the Guardian Way, the more it will be within us.

Nature around us is our most important guide and we learn from all the beings that are around us. We get up with the dawn when all the other animals get active, we move in sync and silence, we practice stealth and low imprint – like shadows. We see but are not seen, we hear but are not heard, we smell but are not smelled.

We clean up and restore wherever we go, fulfilling our part as Guardians of the forest. We are a circle within all the other circles of life – and live in honor and respect, keeping that in mind.

Prerequisites

This training is for you if you have some experience of being outside and feel comfortable being outdoors. Prior wilderness experience is preferred, but not required to participate.

Another important prerequisite is to come as an empty bowl – In order to experience a whole new world in all its facetts, leave preconceptions of Native Lifeway behind, along with beliefs and practices such as meditation, yoga, martial arts etc. The more one’s bowl is already filled, the less room one has for new explorations and discoveries.

Your Guides

We have many years experience of Guardian training and clan living in the wilderness to share with you and we will use our shared group knowledge to meet all our needs. This upcoming experience will be guided by Anja “Bones” Kralik, Elisabeth “Swan” Demeter, and Roni Öhman.

What others are saying…

Initially it was a bit difficult to get a full grasp of the concept. What I would tell someone now is, that it has mainly a (healthy masculine) warrior focus. I would recommend the training because of the dedication and passion of the guides. My biggest learning was the increased trust in my own capability.

~~ Per “Moose” Sörner

Actually going out into nature with you, I recognized that it wasn’t as bad as I would have thought. I saw that my body can actually deal with a lot. Obviously we wouldn’t put ourselves in a situation where we are cold all the time. But we would see that we are having the comfort that we need so that we are able to function. It was a really good perspective for me to gain.
